OMID MOKri
Omid Mokri is a prodigious artist whose works embody the rich heritage of historical Persian art and a contemporary voice of Iran. Mokri was admitted to Tehran's esteemed university Honarestan-e Honarha-ye Ziba at just 16, where he delved into the world of Persian miniatures and historical Qajar period paintings.
Mokri's early works were characterized by the use of lapis lazuli, gold leaf, and gemstones, imbuing his creations with the depth and vibrancy synonymous with classical Persian art. His meticulous attention to detail and mastery of color were evident in these early pieces, which were steeped in the traditional techniques and aesthetic sensibilities of Iran.
After honing his skills at globally recognized institutions such as the Rhode Island School of Design, Mokri continued to evolve his artistic style. His background in creating intricate Persian miniatures significantly influenced his later works, even under the most challenging circumstances.
During a pivotal period of incarceration, Mokri's resilience and ingenuity came to the forefront. He creatively adapted to his environment, using unconventional materials to continue his art practice. This phase of his life highlighted his ability to maintain artistic integrity and vision, despite severe constraints.
In 2022, Mokri's dedication and unique artistic path were honored with the prestigious Headlands Center for the Arts grant. His works, which combine traditional Persian techniques with contemporary themes, are a testament to his journey across different worlds - Mokri's art not only showcases his technical prowess but also narrates a story of hope, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit.
